Hi - I traveled a lot of TN in September (road tripping) from Arizona looking for a possible relocation area. I found TN to be very beautiful and the people very so welcoming, nice and polite. One of my favorite towns was Ooltewah and we stayed for 3 days. I would appreciate any feedback on the town itself as far as safety, outdoor activities to do, shopping, housing etc.,.. I do not have children at home so not concerned with school districts etc., but have a Search & Rescue dog and we love to hike and explore. Any feedback on the age mix etc.,. And what are your thoughts of relocating from a dry sunny area to that part of TN? Adjustment period I am sure. Quick trips to the Smokies as well as to the beaches in Florida - are these doable for an extended 4 day weekend at times?
Thanks!

I've lived in the South and now live in California and spend a lot of time in Arizona so I can kind of provide a bit of general info:

1) September is some of the most Arizona-like weather the South gets. Winters are cold and wet compared to AZ, for sure. You'll find the summers more humid but overall more pleasant with the nights/mornings often quite comfortable and of course day time hot and muggy.

2) FL is very doable for extended weekends and is amazing in the winter.

3) You're right about the people, they're more welcoming than Westerners.

I'd suggest a few more trips before relocating at different times of the year. Best of luck on specifics to Ooltewah.

Thank you - I visited TN in June 2019 and in September 2020 and did not find the humidity too bad at all. Coming from the desert, it was a welcome relief. Being in AZ for over 35 years, I do find our summers getting hotter and hotter - this year we have had 6 months of over 100 degrees. A few days ago, we hit 91 which is crazy for the end of November. So I am ready for a change and I hope TN fits the bill. Will visit again next month.

Ooltewah is a middle class (or in some areas an upper middle class) suburb of Chattanooga. You can find the demographics online telling you about income levels, education levels, race, religion, and all that stuff. You can also get temperature and climate data online. So I guess it boils down to personal preference.

I've been there and spent some time there, but more time in another town about 20 minutes north of Ooltewah. I would have no qualms about living there. Whether it would suit you depends on just what you're looking for. You would be close enough to Chatty to enjoy what they have to offer, plus you would be close enough to the mountains and rural areas to enjoy that too. They seem to have everything that I would need, but again whether it would satisfy you is up to you. Good luck in your search.
