My family and I are visiting town (again) for a whole week and we have rented a house this time, instead of crowding into hotel rooms. Full kitchen, laundry and...just space...is great with small kids. No internet -- not so good for adults. One of us needs to do some writing that involves internet research and is looking for a wifi spot that is open past 8-9pm. Wifi doesn't have to be free. We'll have a smart phone that can connect a laptop but its a pretty slow system, so we are looking for additional options. Currently I cannot seem to find options much better than libraries, all the coffee houses and such seem to close remarkably early! Although we are new NU affiliates, we won't have IDs yet, so Uni library is off limits. Anything suitable I am missing?

Thank you and happy new year!

Have you looked into just having wifi at your home?

The Main Library in downtown is open from Mon to Thurs from 9 am to 9 pm. They have wifi, I believe.

Barnes and Noble in Sherman Plaza is open until 9 PM and has wifi.

Norris Center on the NU Campus has wifi in the dining areas and study lounges. Not sure when they are open.

There seem to be a bunch of infiniti hotspots that are outdoors.

They will be here for 1 week. That doesn't make any sense.

What kind of smartphone? On Verizon for $20/mo I can make my iphone a wifi hotspot. If not that, what about McDonald's?

Yes, we cannot get internet up and running, the rental property is a house that was on the market but didn't sell this round. All utilities are active but it wouldn't make sense for someone no longer living there to maintain wifi or activate it for such a short term event. nana053 is onto something with the Xfinity hotspots map, there is one within a couple of blocks of the house! *maybe*

This. I have Verizon and I do not pay separately to make my iPhone a hotspot. It is just part of my data plan. If I keep my usage under control it is less than $20 a month.

On your iPhone choose Settings > Personal Hotspot. Follow the instructions. Most people don't know it's there.

I would check out Freedom Pop. They will mail you a free device to use cellular networks as wifi access and you just have to pay for the data you use. No contracts. I've never used them before but it sounds like this could work for you.
