Hi,

My husband and I were thinking of buying a house in the south suburbs preferably Oak Lawn but we are concerned that the neighborhood may not be that culturally diverse. My husband and I are both African American and we currently live in a condo in Oak Lawn and we see all different kinds of races coming in and out of the building but when it comes to having children I feel that the schools may not reflect the same thing. My husband and I both have art backgrounds so I was also thinking that a Fine Arts school would work out but as of right now I am not finding anything. I grew up in a predominately white neighborhood myself (in the South) where as my husband did not (in Chicago) but my parents made sure that I tried to be around other races as well which is why she had me go to schools outside of my district. Could that also be a possibility even if I chose to stay in Oak Lawn?

Thanks.

Evergreen Park is more diverse and they have better schools than Oak Lawn.
