I have recently been going crazy snapping up classical recordings with Georg Solti at the helm of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The Nine Symphonies (Beethoven) recording is tremendous. I much prefer it to the touted 1963 Karajan set with the Berlin Philharmonic (that I've had for years). Under Solti, the CSO was considered one of the greatest orchestras in the world. Does that hold true today? Are there any other CSO fans out there?

To anyone, I recommend with my life the Beethoven Nine Symphonies. Glorious!

Loved the CSO !! Sir George Solti was absolutely one of a kind. Miss those days of getting rush tickets when I was a student. Had the pleasure of seeing him and Barenboim conduct. I wonder also, if the CSO is still a world class leading orchestra?

I was in Chicago for two years and am wanting to return early next year. However, I live in L.A. now and the difference with the L.A. Philharmonic and the CSO is quite obvious. L.A. is great at some things, but the CSO is just a rock solid orchestra. As far as one of the best in the world, I would bet on it.
