Chicago is the Best Big City in the U.S. for a historic sixth consecutive year since 2017 and was second before then.

The prestigious recognition comes from the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2022. This year, more than 240,000 readers from all around the country voted for their "favorite destinations and awarded Chicago the title of Best Big City" -- making Chicago the first and only city in the 35-year history of the awards to win this accolade six years in a row.

I like the Thrillist write-up on this as near 90% of tourism back is what is needed and shows in posted Youtube videos.

https://www.thrillist.com/news/natio...-nast-traveler

"The Windy City had an incredibly busy summer, with tourism rates nearly returning to their pre-pandemic levels. Total hotel room demand during the summer months (June, July and August) exceeded 3 million room nights, which is nearly 90 percent of summer 2019 levels, according to Traveler".

This is the top 10 big cities list by Conde Naste' in the US:
1. Chicago
2. Honolulu
3. San Diego
4. Nashville
5. New York City
6. Boston
7. San Francisco
8. New Orleans
9. Washington, DC
10. Seattle

Time Out's list from July 2022 of Top cities to visit in the world. Chicago was second. Again, a alcolade by visitors as tourist and business travelers.

https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/t...022/index.html

These kinds of list keep Chicago in a favorable limelight and FREE advertising that might be better then millions spent on TV adds by the city. Sure there is perhaps 3 Chicago's. We surely get in this forum and the politics forum the bad bad Chicago crime and politics. Really, nothing new. Over decades the city saw upticks and drops. The city still boomed in past eras like when Al Capone and other mafia were doing their dirt and when Da Machine ruled totally. Chicago endured many eras if corruption and crime upticks. Still it will have new mayors and not fall into Lake Michigan. Its diversified economy maintains a Global ranking and GDP still rising.

Reading about the booming West Loop is also great in offices and residential expansion and perhsps more Loop office to residential conversions could come. DC posters boast of it ongoing there on c-d.

If Chicago was closer or in the sunbelt, no reason it would not be booming much more...

Chicago is in need of 2,000 hotel workers. As others have said, the demand is almost 2019 levels. St. Regis is opening next spring and two restaurants operated by 'Lettuce Entertain You' have signed on. All is not doomed.

I don’t think Honolulu’s or even Hawaii in general’s domestic visitors are even in the same ballpark as Chicago’s which normally is upwards of about 60million a year. Hawaii is hard to get to, expensive, etc. Nine times out of ten I prefer to go to Mexico over Hawaii for a tropical vacation and love the nonstops to PVR and other places from SEA. Just my personal preference.

I've visited there recently. Downtown on Memorial Day 2021 when it's supposed to be dead yet it was hardly the case. Near Ogilive Station was a little sketch but further east? I was impressed. Much cleaner than anything in Manhattan.
