hi...I am going to be spending time with my girlfield in chicago for at least 6 months and i'm going to be in a very nice neighborhood on the south side (i forgot the name)

I'm a little concerned because it borders inner city high crime areas and I don't want to have to expirence 'spill over crime'

Anybody have some pictures of bad south side areas??..........

Why? You wanna feel superior? What possibly could you gain from looking at the pictures?

This is a picture of my transportation, taken on the south side on my way home by me.

Manigault, you seem to be the new South Side Crusader.

Any reason? People have been irrational about the South Side as long as I've been posting here. Starting to get fed up?

I can't speak for Manigault but I've been "fed up" since I started posting here. There is a difference between genuine questions about certain areas and the weird voyeurism displayed on here occasionally. Additionally, I get irritated by the one-shot, sweeping posts about the South Side by people who obviously know nothing about the area.

Very cool picture, Manigault. Is that Oakwood?

That's a picture from the 47th street overpass, one of the nicest vistas in the city. I'm not really a crusader for the south side (or a realtor!) or even a native of Chicago. The lack of knowledge of the place just galls me. I just find that it may help the discussion to hear from a person who has, for instance, walked down Ashland near 59th street or had his car fixed on 79th street.

Don't you ever wonder what a person in Chatham thinks about Chatham? I have and I've asked Chatham homeowners about it. That kind of information I find absent on this forum.

It's hard to argue against people who don't actually live in the rougher parts of the SS. I attended a JUCO during the summer located in the SW suburbs and the opinions and perceptions spewed from fellow classmates on the SS of Chicago and the entire city in general made me shake my head. There's a lot of talk but no REAL experiences in which I encountered, but it's their opinion and there is some truth to generalizations. I always tell myself I rather be rough around the edges than be squeaky clean - your immunity is a lot stronger.

You want to see a bad Chicago neighborhood? Use Google Streetview and check out Englewood near 63rd and Racine. What will you see? A lot of empty lots. Ooooohh, empty lots! Spooky!

YIKES!!! According to some people who are on here... that looks pretty scarry since its on the south side. Beautiful pic seriously, nicely taken, it would look really nice on the city's website to encourage biking to work. Nice bike too btw.
