Are you voting for the casino (Issue 6) in November?

I keep hearing people say theyre going to vote for it because it will create more jobs and more money.

The proposed casino is offering 5,000 new jobs. I do not believe these jobs are going to be for people in Clinton County/surrounding area. First of all, the casino is going to bring in a large number of people who already have experience working in casinos. Card dealers and security persons, for example, will be brought in from other casinos. This is because these people already have the special training necessary to work in the casino. And how many people do you think are going to flock to this area once they hear about the opening of the casino? Im sure the restaurants would rather pay a person minimum wage than offer reasonable pay to those who really need it the most.

The casino is going to feature a number of restaurants inside, a couple hotels adjacent to the casino, and a golf course. It's also probably going to serve Starbucks coffee and have HD flatcreen Tvs in the suites. The project is expected to cost $600 mill.

10,000 people are losing their jobs in Wilmington when DHL leaves. I don't think the casino is going to offer hardly enough jobs to benefit the people living in Clinton County. But it is my belief that once the casino is built, retail shops, fast food restaurants, and a few more gas stations will be built in close proximity of the casino along 73. It's very unfortunate that the people at DHL are all losing their jobs and that they are being given false hope that they might get a job at the casino.

Well, I am going to vote for it.

I moved here from the suburbs of Detroit, and watched as Detroit fought gaming for years and years. Finally 3 casino permits were issued and MGM and other operators moved in.

As far as hiring - most of it was Local. The casinos generally hire their crews EARLY (months before the building will open) so that they can train them extensively. As a result the casinos did in fact create a lot of jobs in Detroit.

On the bad side - many people in the Detroit metro area also spend money there they should probably save for other things... but that's their choice.

Since there are already casinos in Indiana, within a quick hour's drive... and since many of my suburban coworkers talk of going there for a night, or even a few hours... I personally don't see why we shouldn't keep that money here in Ohio. Especially in an area that badly needs to redefine itself after the loss of the jobs with the DHL contract.

I don't gamble, but I'll be happy to go there for a show or dinner. In fact since I live in Lebanon, I think it would be great if that I-71 corridor could continue to develop the "entertainment" theme. King's Island to the South, and adult entertainment to the North.

Unless something else comes out to serious change my perceptions, I'll be voting "yes" come November.

I have to agree that it would be a good thing for the local community if it does in fact create decent paying jobs.

I am just concerned because of the unwanted visitors it can attract: drunk drivers, for example. A strip club.

Well.. If its going to come, I'd prefer it come in BIG. Honestly the classier Casinos don't usually go with the strip club vibe , that's more the sad smoke-filled 200 person tribal casino areas. Drunk drivers, well.. that's a concern any time you have alcohol. Though at least for the bigger casino with a hotel, the hotel part may mitigate the drinking and driving...
