Some interesting (and important) reading that I just dug up:

Public misinformed on Cleveland Heights' safety; a third of sexual assault reports misclassified | cleveland.com

It appears that Cleveland Heights has been "cooking the books".

Here are the recent OVERALL crime rates (from C-D):

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS:
2007 - 85.8; 2008 - ???.?; 2009 -152.7; 2010 - 137.8; 2011 - 224.5

LAKEWOOD:
2007- 187.2; 2008 - 186.5; 2009 - 125.0; 2010 - 133.0; 2011 -156.0

This isn't about anyone being in denial, it's about reality, particularly as to how it relates to a faulty perception. Although there is some variation in those statistics, they bear out that, overall, it's no stretch to say that Cleveland Heights is no less safe than Lakewood.
All right, double down, whatever you say. I'm confident I've laid out the case accurately and fairly for those reading this thread who don't have an agenda.

Although I believe it's possible that you're telling the truth, even if you are it's a meaningless anecdote for several reasons: a) Human memory is known to be wildly inaccurate at times and, b) police blotters must be taken with a grain of salt and considered in the larger context of city population.

From speaking with close friends in law enforcement, this practice is not uncommon and it's naive to believe otherwise.

Based on your cherry-picked numbers? So you're telling me someone is less likely to be robbed in Lakewood? Great. What if they have concerns about being raped or assaulted? Over the past five years in each of those two categories, one had a much higher chance of either of those crimes being committed against them while in Lakewood than in Cleveland Heights.

It's wholly untrue. But, those are the statistics.

The fact is, Cleveland Heights is, for the most part, as safe as any inner-ring suburb in just about any city in America.
The fact is: Cleveland Heights consistently has more than twice as many robberies per capita as Lakewood. In 2011 and 2012, more than three times as many.

One might form the perception based on this fact that Cleveland Heights isn't even the safest inner-ring suburb in its own metro area, let alone the nation.

I guess if all you're worried about is robberies, then Lakewood is the place to be. Rape and assault? Not so much.

It's always nice to see the "anti" crowd sticking to the fallacy that cherry picked stats somehow prove anything at all.

Fun fact: A "robbery" can be any theft that includes confrontation. So, if someone yells "HALT!! Thief!" during a shoplifting attempt, that would constitute a robbery. Oh, the horror...

Personally, I am more concerned about murder, rape, kidnapping, aggravated robbery, and felonious assault. And, of course, the rate of each is very low in Cleveland Heights.

Everyone participating in this thread has to watch the Truman Show if they haven't already.

The safest inner-ring suburb in Cleveland is Fairview Park, anyway.

Interesting and relevant article to this discussion in the PD today:
Cleveland's urban scene gets a boost from young adults moving in | cleveland.com

According to the article, young adults are moving back into dense suburbs like CH, and the city as well. Definitely a positive sign for the region, and encouraging to anyone looking into moving to those areas.
