Can anyone recommend a good podcast on the Cleveland sports scene? I have hooked up with a few of the WKNR podcasts but they are pretty light (lots of 5-10 minute clips, that's about it). Thx.

I wanted to give a shout out to two lesser known, but very successful, Cleveland sports teams:

1) Lake Erie Monsters (AHL Hockey) -- current record 2-0

This past week, they had their home opener, drawing an amazing 12,500 fans. Lake Erie Monsters come back with a comeback win in season opener | cleveland.com

Next upcoming home games: Oct 29, Oct 31, Nov 5, Nov 7, Nov 10, Nov 12, Nov 13
Here's the team site: Official Site of the Lake Erie Monsters: Home

2) Case Western Reserve University Football (DIII) -- current record 5-0

CWRU has quietly won 36 straight regular season games, dating back to 2006. They play at a beautiful facility in University Circle known as "The Village," since the walls of the stadium are all-brick campus housing.

Next upcoming home games: Oct 23, Nov 6, Nov 13
Here's the team site: Spartan Football - Home

Besides rooting for the "Big 3," I encourage you to check out these other successful Cleveland sports teams. And don't forget about Cleveland State University basketball as well!

The Monsters may have the most unique name in pro sports, in that it doesn't mention a city, state or even region (i.e., the "New England" teams). Lake Erie can cover multiple states, cities and regions. When I first saw the Lake Erie Monsters in the Chicago Wolves schedule, I thought they were from Erie, Pa.

I just wanted to let everybody know with all the disappointments with the Cavs there is a basketball team that plays hard every night at the Wolstein Center. The Cleveland State Vikings are a perfect 10-0 so far. Unfortunately they get little attention and that's to be expected but I hope more word can get around on how well they're doing so we can start filling up the seats. Their next game is at home on Tuesday against West Virginia Tech.

Your last line says it all as to why they haven't gotten much attention. Beating teams like West Virginia Tech, Bryant & Urbana aren't going to attract much of it. I will say, they've beaten some solid mid-majors in Kent, Akron, Robert Morris, St. Bonaventure & Iona. After tonight & Saturday's cupcake games, we'll see what they really are made of w/ 2 games against Big East teams in a trip to West Virginia & a home game vs. South Florida - also their 2 games vs. Butler in conference play will be key. Nonetheless, 10-0 is a very nice start, and w/the way the Cavaliers are playing right now, you do have a point to some extent.
