I do not know much about NC, but I would like to know what town you would recommend to live in that are about 20 minutes from any beach - we are looking to move by Xmas. We enjoy dinning, bars, having drink & dinner on the water or bay, shopping, & people watching, seeing live music and a nice beach to go to. Please give me all suggestions and if you can why the town is good to live in. I would like to spend no more than 375k for a home.

Wilmington is going to be the largest and most interesting place that's along the coast.

Southport is like a suburb of Wilmington that has many restaurants. Brunswick County has many homes within your budget in Bolivia, Calabash, Shallotte, Leland, etc. They are likely to be older homes, as new construction starts in the $500K range.

You could also look at Swansboro, Beaufort and Morehead City near Jacksonville.

Do you need to find jobs?

375k to live within 20 minutes of the beach?

I would say at this point you need to budget 500K for housing to live in Coastal NC.

It depends on the house. There are 229 houses on Zillow right now for under $375 in Wilmington alone, all of which are within 20 minutes of the beach.

Florida. Or wilmington. But Florida because what you are looking for is more widely available.

It might help us make appropriate recommendations if you can tell us what it is about NC that attracts you, especially since you admit that you don't know much about the state.

Southport. We retired here in 2018. It’s a great coastal town, loads of charm, minutes from the beach. We have everything we need on a day to day basis in terms of grocery stores, specialty shops, restaurants etc. For big box stores and more retail shopping, we’re only about 35 min from Wilmington.

This is not a town I’d recommend for families…much more geared to the retiree. Schools are not great and not much here to keep kids busy. I’d recommend Wilmington for those with children.

Have you been to the Outer Banks?

A bit isolated driving wise from the balance of NC, but easy access to Norfolk VA. Plenty of stores and restaurants and a LOT of beaches. Tourism is a bit of a pain in the Summer, but then anywhere popular on the East Coast is. I have multiple family members living there and they love it.
