Are either of the two towns golf cart friendly like Southport? A friend of mine is looking to relocate, But really can’t swing Southport. They are looking for some place that is cart friendly like Southport and coastal. I suggested some SC and GA towns but they want to stay in NC for family reasons.

I will say that Sneads Ferry is generally not golf cart-friendly, in that is not safe to take one on the main roads. The speed limit on the main roads is 55 MPH. However, within our gated development, people use carts to get to the clubhouse and to visit neighbors. In the old fishing village part, you could ride a cart to several restaurants. The North Shore Country Club and a few other limited access developments are safe to ride around in. However, you cannot expect to use a cart to buy groceries or go to a drug store.

From my limited view of Swansboro, I would also say that the main roads are not safe for golf carts. There are probably limited access developments where it is safe to use carts. Swansboro is a nice town with an number of restaurants and cute shops. I would recommend it over Sneads Ferry if the friends have a modest budget.

If they shop carefully in Southport and Oak Island, they might find affordable fixer-uppers.
