My daughter is looking for animal/ marine biology programs for college and doing early research.

Anyone have any feedback on NC Wilmington?

We love NC and the coast, seems like a great place and online reviews seem pretty favorable. Just looking for some other opinions. Thanks

The academics of UNCW are probably fine. I would make sure the daughter gets housing which offers a quiet place to study. Are freshmen required to live in dorms?

UNC-W is a vastly underrated university, academically speaking, especially in the majors you listed.

UNCW's Marine Biology is probably their best program in terms of recognition. It is actually a reason to go to UNCW over other schools.

NC State has "the" Vet School in NC, if your focus is more to just animals in general. I would suggest it is the best overall "science" school in NC.

UNCW does push for students to study abroad during their time there and Australia has always been a big area for them, which likely falls into the Marine Biology theme. In terms of its campus, its overall safe and more suburban, with lots of housing options within walking/biking distance that are catered to students. Very commercial area on a very busy road. They are currently expanding their library and have recently finished some new on campus dorms.
