What about Colorado Springs in the popular media? Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, The movie The Prestige (they clearly have no idea what Pikes Peak looks like, but David Bowie as Tesla - how cool is that?) Don't forget NORAD in War Games and NORAD in Star Gate There have been several movies filmed here, too, such as Fast Food Nation (or part of it, anyway) and the Pioneer Museum courthouse has been used in many movies over the years. Clive Cussler's novel Cyclops uses Colorado Springs as one of its settings. In Star Trek, Spock's mother Amanda is from Colorado Springs. Some famous people - Elvira is from Colorado Springs, Palmer graduate. Lon Chaney - silent film star Tom Hamilton - Aerosmith bassist Bobby Unser - automobile racer Dog the Bounty Hunter (I guess a lot of it is filmed here, but I've never seen it.)

Quote by Cassandra Peterson "Elvira" who graduated from a Colorado Springs high school:

"...there's nothing wrong with G-rated movies, as long as there's lots of sex and violence."

Good piece on town founder William Jackson Palmer in today's Gazette.

Too many tidbits about him and the town to put here.

Now I know who to seriously blame for the hideous practice of fluoridation of public water supply -- and the so-called fluoride used is a waste byproduct of the fertilizer industry -- is simply forced drugging of the populace, a "dilution-is-the-solution," using human livers to filter out waste products, also suspected to have a mental sedating effect, certainly causes fluorosis. Read up on it, people.

Stop fluoridating water!

P.S. You can purchase and install an undersink reverse-osmosis (RO) filter to removal ALL contaminants -- including fluoride, which is the smallest particle to be removed -- and feel safe about drinking your water.
P.P.S. Common black tea has a natural dentifrice (cavity fighting agent) in it. Drink iced tea, w/out sugar!

Default CoSpgs two best "freak" attractions

CoSpgs two best 'freak attractions,' at least right now:

Home of the new "Apple Dumpling Gang" who are investigating the 49 murders of (1) America's most prolific serial killer, Robert Browne.

(2) Home of the 14,000-member New Life mega-church, over which the now infamous Ted Haggard formerly presided, and which church was the subject of an assault by a former member just last year, who, sadly was killed in the process after he killed several teenage members.

Palmer Lake, at 7250 feet, is said to be the highest spring-fed lake in the continental US.
Awake Palmer Lake

Also, it sits atop the Palmer Divide, a geographic barrier which physically seperates drainage to the Arkansas River basin (to the north) and the Platte River Basin (to the south)... In fact...

If you go to County Line Road on a rainy day and look just east of its intersection with hwy. 105, then you can see the waters flowing in opposite directions on either side of the road. Pretty neat, if you're into geography at all.

Good point! I summited Monument Hill twice already today... and in heavy snow at that!

The OP's statement was that Pikes Peak was the 'most summited mountain' (behind Mt. Fuji), but he gave no contextual information to lend any validity to that statement. So I agree, if there's no height requirement to define what we mean by a 'Mountain' then the top of MH no doubt blows away the visitation numbers of either PP or Mt. Fuji. But, then, the top of any little hill in Manhattan would probably wax everything in the visitation department.
