I have to travel from the Florissant area (US 24, west of Woodland Park) and will pass through Las Vegas, Nevada this coming Wednesday, Sept 2.

In normal times it appears that it would be fastest to take 24/9 up to Breckenridge or just 24 up to I-70, thence west to I-15. But it appears that there are both construction and fire delays to be expected on I-70 around Glenwood Springs. Does anyone have current information as to how much one might be delayed? I do have the option of going down to US 50 and up through Grand Junction to hit I-70 there, but there is the customary summer road work on US 50 as well.

Any ideas or suggestions that do not involve airplanes?

I would take 50. To avoid 70 and 50 both you would a lot of hours of travel time - about 4 - but if you are determined to do so you could take 160 and/or 93.

Just for fun I went on cheaptickets.com and found round trip airfares between DEN and LAS as low as $129 on spirit airlines.

Driving is at least 760 miles one way, 1500 miles round trip. At 30 MPG that's 50 gallons of gas at say $2.25/gallon or $112.50 just for gas, plus parking at DEN and rental car or Ubers in LV.

At 760 miles, I'd take the interstates as much as possible, as for me that's the only way to cover 760 miles in one long day of driving, even with the slowdowns on I-70.
