There is a lawsuit going on now about the ones in New Hampshire/Maine/Vermont. They come way down from the border into tourist land and hassle everyone about non-border issues.

Unacceptable should have been reported.
There is also a checkpoint before Alamogordo on HWY 70 that Double H recommends. The Check station on HWY 54 between El Paso and Alamogordo is a friendly one also. All the checkpoints East, West, and North of El Paso are the United States Border Patrol checkpoints. There is no Drivable Road or Highway that leads out of El Paso that does not have a checkpoint.
The Checkpoint that is about 25 miles north of Las Cruces I have never had a problem with. The Agents are usually friendly but they do have the occasional drug bust there.
There is another Checkpoint on I -25 just north of Truth or Consequences, NM which is on I-25 but it is rarely open.
The worst checkpoint is the one east of El Paso on I-10 near Sierra Blanca, they have dogs there most of the time and randomly take people out of their vehicles and tear the vehicle apart.
There is only one Road or paved
Hwy that goes west from EL Paso that does not have a checkpoint and it is a two-lane hwy it would take you way out of your way, it is very remote, The Border Patrol use this Hwy to patrol the border and drive east to west on it day and night.
If it was me I would take my chances and Drive north straight to Colorado Springs via I-10 , I-25
through Las Cruces, NM, Truth or Consequences.

Unlikely complaints will do much have to file a lawsuit most won't cost too much. I know someone who had their phone taken from them because they refused to give up their password he never got it back unless he hired an attorney which exceeds the cost of a new phone. He was a US citizen they could not keep him from entering. This was not at a check point he was flying in from Central America I have read about the same thing at the border. I never been stopped at those check points they just waive me by I live in Arizona drive though them on a regular bases, but I'm white drive a newer vehicle.

That's when I started bringing an old iPhone uses a different account nothing on it. I use a regular digital point and shoot camera I upload all my pictures and video to cloud storage before I leave a foreign country.
