Depending on the rental company or landlord, water/sewer/trash might be included in your base rent as this is a semi-common practice.

As for the link you post for Arena Crossing, that is a reputable complex and its definitely not a case of "too good to be true". I have friends that live there and love it. It's right in between Nationwide Area (Blue Jackets hockey), the surrounding bars/restaurants, and Park Street. I haven't been out on Park Street in years, but it used to get loud, busy, and very boisterous on weekends. So if you are looking for a more laid back area, Arena Crossing might not be for you.
Sounds great!
I'm 25 so I don't mind a busy/loud area. Thank you so much for the info!

No problem!

Another website that might be helpful (and more reliable than Craigslist) is Metro Rentals. Just click on the neighborhood you'd like to view the listings.

Great tip, haven't heard about that site before. Thank you again. :-)

So there aren't anything else to consider? No property taxes on rental apts? TV/Wifi usually included?

For the Metro Rentals website, I would advise to be careful on the area you select. Some neighborhoods are cross-referenced to appear close to the Short North, like Weinland Park, but they are not. Look in Italian Village, Short North, Victorian Village, and Arena District. Harrison West is a good neighborhood, but it's the furthest away from High Street.

And no property taxes on rentals. Some larger complexes/buildings/companies may have a Wi-Fi included, but definitely not TV.

No Columbus apartment buildings offer free antenna hook-ups for broadcast TV, not even older apartment buildings?

It's easy enough to go to Sears (while they are around) or a Target or Walmart electronics department and get a small antenna box. They are around 20-30 dollars. That's what I have for local channels. The biggest deterrence here may be the interference towards the towers from surrounding buildings or other structures.

When I lived in large apartment buildings in Greater Cleveland several decades ago, in the days before cable, they all had free broadcast TV hook-ups.

Perhaps these are no longer maintained, and the antennas are gone, supplanted by cable which often has become another profit center for apartment ownership.

Hello again,

I know that this has nothing to do with Raleigh vs Columbus but while we're on the subject of renting apartments I would just like to add one more question.

When I move I will transfer my Amex card which will give me a decent credit (I hope so atleast) and from my understanding most landlords require a good credit score but I've also seen several landlords requiring a steady income, usually somewhere around 2.5x rent which I understand but will be an issue for me to begin with.

Do you know any decent apartments that doesn't have the income requirement? I have savings to pay for rent for many months and I will get a job of course. But my plan at first is to take a month "vacation" to get settled in with the language, the country, the city, meet some people etc

Which would be a better starter city for someone who hasn't ever relocated?
Dennison, Kenyon and Ohio Wesleyan are ranked very highly.

Ohio State is generally ranked anywhere from 13th through 18th as a public university, depending on the year. That's not so shabby either.
