I want to relocated to Columbus from rural Ohio for better economic, social, and cultural opportunities for myself and for my two kids (when they get older). I'm disabled and have found it impossible to find accommodating/accepting employers anywhere near me. In addition to a better economy I'm also hoping to find a neighborhood that is progressive and accepting. I have a very, very limited income and will only be able to afford income-based or subsidized housing (less than around $500/mo).

I've called around and been directed to the list of affordable housing on hud.gov (http://https://ap...me=Ohio). There are 47 results and no option to look at these in a map view, and no neighborhood info whatsoever. I've been copying and pasting addresses into google maps to get a sense of where they are and what the street view looks like, but with my 10 year old laptop it's taking ages and I don't even know if the impression I'm getting is that reliable.

Hoping people familiar with Columbus and could possibly recognize some of these addresses or complex names and tell me which ones to look into and which ones to avoid.

My top choices for location are Dublin or a neighborhood like German village, but I know those are also the most expensive areas. Been to Westerville a few times and it seemed nice. Where would you recommend for a location as close to (or similar to) these places as possible?

I'm also interested in buying a home (I have good credit), but have only been able to find one program that serves Columbus (the ADDI down payment assistance program). Wondering if there are other programs for home buyers in Columbus, or possibly private charities that help families like mine with housing?

Thank you to anyone who can help!

Your link is not working.

I would check out National Church Residences. They have apartments in some really nice locations. I don't know if they accept children, but they have a sliding scale for older folks or those with disabilities.
