I have a Dell XPS 13 with 16 gb ram and lots of storage that I bought in 2017. The keyboard is starting to fail, the 'g' 'h' and the semicolon keys are not working. To use these keys, I have to bring up the on-screen keyboard.
I have been dreading this day. I am going to save this and continue on my tablet because I cant type like tis.
I bought this when I was still working back in 2017 so I wanted a good laptop, it's Intel core i7, 8th Gen. It was fairly expensive, I don't have the receipt but it was between $1500 and $2000 I think, I could be wrong about the price. Back then I was consulting on my own, did a lot of word, excel, needed to log into client machines. Today I'm retired and really only do the following:
Surf the web
Watch Hulu, Netflix, NBC, etc
Gmail and Yahoo email.
There is a big price difference between the Dell XPS and the Dell Latitude today. Would I notice any difference in using a new Latitude given what I do now?
Basically I want the laptop and software I use today duplicated on new hardware. I do backup on a WD drive, so hopefully I can transfer everything I have now to a new laptop.
Any recommendations? Should I stay with the XPS line or is it overkill for what I use a laptop for?
I have used Dell most of my life, is that a reason to stay with the brand?
Whatever I do it has to be quick since typing on my tablet is cumbersome too.
ps I can spend more than $200 but I don't want to spend $2000 either. I am lookin at te XPS 15 in but if Latitude works for me, I'm good with that!
If everything else works good, , and all you need is somerthing to surf with try here for a replacement keyboard. Or buy a Refurb Chromebook here.
I used PC's at work, since retiring, I use nothing but refurb Chromebooks. They can do spreadsheets too, and no antivirus protection needed.

Thanks, that's interesting! Is the keyboard something I can replace by myself?
I've had nothing but problems with refurbs over the years. Either they arrive DOA or they poop out after 1-2 years. The high cost of low price. I'm done.
I recently bought a brand new Dell Latitude laptop directly from the Dell website, under $500, and arrived within one week ready to go. I also have an XPS desktop model. Eventually I'm going to upgrade all computers to Dell.

Thanks! Since you just got a Latitude, from what I mentioned, what specs do you think I'd be happy with ?
It's doable, but needlessly complicated. I can remove the keyboard on my ancient Thinkpad in about 3 steps
Oh wow, thanks! That's not something I would be able to do. I'll probably go to Best Buy or order from Dell.com.
Any more opinions:
1. XPS
2. Latitude
3. Inspiron
How muc ram? Storae ? I cant deal wit tis!!! lol
