I fully understand. As I said, whether you "fix" it or not, whether you watch your content or not, either way you are using a device that is past its expected life, and more prone to fail again than a new device. It's not a matter of "if" you lose your content, but "when". You can likely minimize what content you lose in the future by acting proactively (which means getting a new one sooner rather than later).

You can't go "over" the capacity of your DVR. When the drive is full, it's full. You're not going to hit 125% of a drives capacity. What probably happened is you hit 100%, it's an old DVR with likely outdated software and a dying drive and it's just done.

Binge watch, give it up, whatever - but it's going to have to be replaced. You're not fixing it, the cable company certainly isn't going to send someone out to fix it, as an IT guy I can tell you it's not worth the time and effort to fix it. Get a new one that probably has a drive 2-3 times the capacity of the old one.

Also...ugh. This is why I gave up cable. Got tired of paying for those devices every month, on top of the absurd fees for channels I never watched. 10 years? I could have bought god only knows how many Sling TV units with that money...

As a Last-Ditch:
Turn off.
Unplug from TV and cable.
Fully power down the unit (turn off and unplug from outlet).
Wait about two hours.
Reconnect and see what happens.

I'm sure you've heard the old "restart it" advice? Turn it off, wait ten seconds, turn it back on?

Well, I turned it off many times; every day, in fact, or even several times a day.

But unplugging it overnight did the trick, so thanks to that poster!

O ye of little faith who said "get rid of it"...
