On Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun. Anyone within the path of totality can see a total solar eclipse. This path, where the moon will completely cover the sun and the sun's tenuous atmosphere - the corona - can be seen, will stretch from Salem, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina. Cookeville and other parts of Middle Tennessee are right in the middle of that path. NASA has established several official viewing locations, only three of which are in Middle Tennessee. The only one in the Upper Cumberland region is in Cookeville at Tennessee Tech University.

Tech will be holding an all-day "Eclipse Fest" at Tucker Stadium and the adjoining Tailgate Park starting at 10am, with the viewing party starting at 12:30pm. While the event is free, they're asking that participants register so the university can plan accordingly.

"NASA has established several official viewing locations, only three of which are in Middle Tennessee."

Well since NASA has decreed then it must be honored.

My house is one of the UNofficial viewing sites then. If people confuse that UN with the United Nations then all the merrier. Actually I'm expecting heavy chemtrail spraying that day. That's an UNofficial prediction though.

Stratospheric Aerosol Injection (SAI) (aka chemtrail) might actually help protect against eye damage from people staring at the sun.

Here is a link to information about the path and timing of the total eclipse. The path will include a wide swath across Tennessee.

For example, Crossville will experience 2 minutes and 31 seconds of eclipse.

A little further east in Sweetwater, the motels have been booked up for a year on that date since it is also in the path of the total eclipse and festivities have been planned.

This is shaping up to be quite an extravaganza. Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol are expecting thousands of people to converge on Tennessee (and other places within the path of the eclipse) and not just from within the U.S. According to yesterday's paper, a Japanese group is seeking to rent Cookeville's Cane Creek Sportsplex--the entire sportsplex (8 baseball fields, soccer fields, etc.) for the eclipse. Nashville is expecting its city to double in population during the eclipse. Cookeville hotels have already been booked up for quite some time. No word on area campgrounds and state parks.

Outside magazine listed Cookeville and Cummins Falls among its six places in the country to watch the eclipse.

Albeit one that no one can explain since the moon travels from east to west, not west to east. The earth is flat and stationary; and the moon moves over us.. FROM EAST TO WEST. Even on the ball earth model, there is no logical way to explain this. Not only doesn't the direction of the shadow not make sense, the size doesn't either.

Edit: Ok, someone explained to me how it is possible to be viewed in reverse; but the size of the moon, according to 'science' is 1/4th the size of the earth. That should cover a broader path than what we're told. Where in nature does an object cast a smaller shadow than its size?

I question everything NASA says because they are incredible, as in not credible.

The picturesque little town of Gainesboro is getting into the spirit of the eclipse by hosting its first annual Sol Invictus festival the weekend of the eclipse.

This year's event will be Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 19-20. Saturday's festivities will be from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Activities are also planned for Monday, the day of the eclipse.

Everything will occur around the courthouse square and there will be music, food, art, hand-crafted items and face-painting for kids.

Victor Kline of the colorful Vic's Remember When Bakery on the square said he is already planning treats around the eclipse theme: solar cupcakes and other solar pastries.

"We're going to make doughnuts that look like that, too," Kline said. "Just something fun."

While shops around the square tend to have limited hours, he said all plan to be open for the festival.

"That's huge around here," he said.

They are also having a business decorating contest.

"This town loves stuff like this," Kline added.

He said vacationers staying at nearby Salt Lick and Defeated Creek campgrounds are expected to participate.

The Gainesboro Sun Fest also will help support a good cause. Net proceeds will benefit Jack Stoddard's Jammin' at Hippie Jack's Appalachian charities.

Festival-goers are urged to bring non-perishable food and children's and adults winter coats.

Special safety-viewing glasses will be given away at the square during the festival and also at the Charles Ralph Holland Memorial Library. The library will also have an audio-visual presentation about the eclipse.
