That's the headline in the H-C that caught my eye. Baxter Mayor John Martin told a meeting this week of the Joint Economic and Development Council that Baxter is "working with a group on another plant, possibly three more plants." Obviously he couldn't divulge the names since everything is still in the negotiations stage. But one plant would have 100-110 jobs, another would have 200-250. Any ideas what they are?

Other interesting news about the growth taking place in Baxter: a development with 700 homes is expected to be approved this week (a mix of family homes, townhomes, and estate homes). There are 40 townhomes under construction at the intersection of Hwy 56/Buffalo Valley Rd, 60 townhomes under construction off Hwy 56 near I-40, 100 SFH on Main Street behind Upperman HS, and another 350 homes that will be built there. With other housing developments in the pipeline, he said there are upwards of 2,000 new homes coming to Baxter. (I should add that these are just within the Baxter city limits and do not include other subdivisions being developed in western Putnam County outside of Baxter.)

Not sure if this is something to get excited about, but another Dollar General might be headed to Baxter, and only 2 miles from the current one.

Mystery solved for the first one. Anatolia Granite, which is based in Knoxville, has bought 56 acres in Baxter to build a 140k sq ft plant that will employ 110 people working in commercial and residential granite, marble, glass and metal products and services. The projected time frame is to have it completed and open for business in 18 months.
