I agree-too much. And the question about luggage is valid. You will have to allocate time and money for the dress to be pressed before you can wear it. My first choice was a taffeta cocktail dress but I knew it would need LOTS of attention to look good. I took a stretchy, crinkly halter-style long dress that I could roll up in my suitcase. Take it out, hang it up in a steamy bathroom and it looked perfect!
A nice cocktail-style dress is perfectly fine for Carnival's formal night. There will be lots of opportunities for formal pictures as well that night.

I think it's fine. I'd wear whatever I want and not worry about people who I'll never see again in my life. You're spending your money on this trip. Live it up the way you want.

do you realize this post is years old? I sorta bet the OP has taken the cruise and a few more.

I know, we all from time to time respond to threads that are way outdated. I am not sure why there isn't a timeline on these threads, but I am sure there must be a reason.

Just got back from a 15 day Hawaii cruise with Carnival. Both elegant nights had people wearing various things. Many women were in nice pants and a dressy shirt. Some cocktail dresses......but nothing like what you showed a picture of. However, you wouldn't be out of place to wear it. I would think you would be more out of place in levis and a t-shirt.

I forgot all my cocktail dresses and didn't realize it until I was packing on the ship. I ended up getting a hawaian dress and our first port and bought a pretty crocheted shall on the ship and I was fine...I was worried sick about elegant night beforehand. All that list making of items to bring and then to forget those. But everything turned out fine. Will you ever see these people again? probably not. No one cares, they only care about themselves. That is what I had to tell myself.

Have fun...you will love it! Carnival is amazing! Best cruise I had been on and I have been on many!

This is true. I just saw how old this was after I responded. However maybe other people can benefit from it.
