The posturing by North Korea is so over-the-top so accelerated and so unlike the country's M.O. that something else has to be going on; but what is it? Who is really pulling the strings here? What are the benefits for the U.S. to invade North Korea? North Korea is basically handing its ass to America on a silver platter , what is this the beginning of?

Right.

North Korean provocations include:

*Killing 2 American soldiers in the DMZ with an axe (1976)
*Killing 21 in a bombing in Rangoon intended to assassinate the South Korean Presdident (1983)
*Bombing Korean Air Flight 858, killing 115 (1987)
*Sinking a South Korean Navy ship, killing 46 sailors (2010)
*Shelling a South Korean island, killing 2 South Korean marines and 2 civilians
[and this is a very incomplete list]

And you think mere posturing is relatively over the top? You're certainly right that it is out of character, but only in the sense that their normal modus operandi means killing people. Mere sabre-rattling, it should be noted, is a notch down from from shelling, torpedoing, bombing and axing people to death.

it happens every April. Since there is a kid running the show now and this is his first April as ruler, he's making a bigger show than last year's show.

N. Korea is running an extortion racket. They have to keep upping the ante to get the food and concessions they need from other countries. They are now running out of new threats, and are forced into threat re-cycling.

The nuclear threat was actually much greater under his father; back then, their facilities were still fully functional and in operation. The old man agreed to close down his reactors as part of a past deal. The kid is now threatening to start them up again.

They have yet to play their last trump card. I expect that card to be the mass publicized intentional starvation of some of their citizenry, sort of N. Korea's way of saying "Give me what I want or I shoot this baby."

We are wise not to take this lightly, but mark my words- a year from now, there will be another go-round.

Let the Truthers begin.

Refer to a prior post, North Korea does this type of posturing every year almost on schedule, along with various provocations like killing and kidnapping South Korean citizens. They're fortunate that no SK government has gotten real pissed off. It's only "over the top" because nukes have been thrown in. The Kims have always threatened imminent annihilation of the South.

I've mentioned it before in other posts but It seems to me NK isn't trying to scare us nearly as much as the media is.

Maybe so we give a sigh of relief and shout "Finally!" when the military goes in instead of questioning the reasons or being overly concerned about the flag-draped coffins that inevitably get sent home?

It is a little unsettling. I don't know if something has changed in N. Korea, or is about to change there. But I do see increasing signs that their rhetoric is causing concern here.

Kerry is trying to get the Chinese to pressure their client state on this, but who knows what they are willing to do? Or what they can do?
