Sidewalks and enough streetlights should be mandatory in every new community. It's not only for the safety of the ever growing elderly population but for the children and handicapped. Having sidewalks promotes healthy walking.

In looking at developments in the past, if they didn't have sidewalks they were ruled out.

Yes, they are important to me and I am grateful that we are getting even MORE sidewalks with this route 26 construction. I live in town/civilization because I desire certain amenities such as sidewalks. More bike lanes would be nice too...and we're getting them as well .

Re-thinking this, I guess sidewalks would be expected if the homeowner is paying a homeowners association fee. In Kent County, where I am, there are many subdivisions not having sidewalks.

In my community there are sidewalks on one side of the street only. That is also the side that you need to park cars on so emergency vehicles can get through easily. Apparently those were the guidelines when this community was first built 11 years ago.

We have no sidewalks in Pot Nets and our ground rent is far from cheap.
