Ok so I am a little confused and need some help.

https://www.wrde.com/news/cannonball...e8bac10428.htm

In the article they used the words the cannonball was missing and possibly stolen. I also either read or heard that it was "taken" but they did not say stolen.

Can someone in law enforcement please explain to this logical former northerner, the difference. The cannonball was an artifact of historical nature that was chained to the building. It did not just up and walk off. The difference between stolen and missing please? TY.

^^^It was missing until someone returned it. It would be considered stolen if they never got it back.

I read something, somewhere...... that it was lodged in the foundation of the building, had come loose, and was on the verge of falling out. Then, the story goes, some kids got it the rest of the way out, started kicking it around and it ended up on the sidewalk where it was found. Heresay.....but the cannonball is back. I think that's enough "excitement" for the day.

Ok where I am from, if it was attached to the building or chain and was suddenly no longer there, it would be considered stolen. Now, if as RDLR, said, it was essentially a loose cannonball and some kids were just having some fun that explains it. I literally am delighted it was found and returned. Thanks to both of you.

You're welcome. FYI I've visited Lewes (not just for riding the ferry) fairly often on my DE beach and OCMD vacations, and seen said cannonball lodged in that foundation.

Hi, Boothwynman.....Glad to hear from you! Yes, I was at the museum last summer, and also saw that cannonball in the foundation. I was there, I think, in August, for a Lewes Historical Society event. By the way, I had an aunt who lived in Boothwyn (Featherbed Ln). I believe part of her family is still living in that area.

I forgot to add, attended craft shows just off Shipcarpenter Square on the edge of downtown.
