Thank you doll. I agree that tolls can take its toll on your wallet. I have been commuting from owings mills to north of philly every weekend. would love to try 301 but bay bridge would take me way off of my route. do you propose any other route, e.g., 301 to 896 to 40....

Chase are you talking about the North Village townhouses and Lakewood village townhouses on catherine street in middletown? I thought middletown was the suburbs of delaware ? If so arent those low income housing developments

Default Anyone from Middletown, Delaware ?

Hi Everyone,
My husband & I are considering a move to Delaware to flee the high taxes of NJ. We have a 7 year old daughter. We are looking for a development/neighborhood which has recreational amenities, like a swimming pool, club house, walking paths, at a minimum. A golf course and restsurant would be a nice plus. So far our list consists of Parkside, The Estates at Saint Anne's, Crossland at the Canal and The Grande at Shannon Cove. Anyone live at any of these or know anyone who does? We would welcome all comments-good and bad about these neighborhoods. We were particularly interested in The Estates at Saint Anne's, but heard the golf course and clubhouse developer filed for bankruptcy this fall/winter--wondering what this will mean in terms of whether anything beyond the houses will get built. Also, please feel free to let us know if you know of a development/neighborhood which has these amenities which is not on our list.
Thanks Everyone!

I reside south of Odessa and to my knowledge no developments in this area have their own swimming pool. The Silver Lake Pool in Middletown is what most people join. Middletown resident pay something like $250 a family per season and non-Middletown families $400. Personal, inground pools are not uncommon here also.

The bankrupt developer at Saint Anne's does not appear to be reorganizing and I have heard no rumblings of anyone stepping in to continue the project. Contact the management at Back Creek and Frog Hollow Golf Courses. They were going to operate the course when completed and may have the information you need. Saint Anne's was to be a private Country Club.

Also check the developments around Odessa National Golf Course, which opened last year. From The Grande at Shannon Cove, travel south thru Odessa about 3-4 miles and turn left at Fieldsboro road. There are several deveopments there. Back Creek, Frog Hollow, Saint Anne's and Odessa National are the only MOT (Middletown, Odessa and Townsend) golf courses.

Lastly, know that Parkside, or anything on that side of Middletown will be affected by the new Route 301 project. Good luck on your search.

Thanks so much jdoll! Very good information to know, especially about the 301 project and its impact on Parkside. The news about Estates at Saint Anne's is disappointing, but the advice to contact Frog Hollow and Back Creek is very helpful. I will do that this week. Thanks again.
Anyone else with input? Would love to hear from people who live in these developments...

Looking to be in the $400,000-450,000 price range, but might be willing to go up to $500,000 for a house we considered really perfect. Not really sure about square feet, but probably 3200 minimum counting just 1st and 2nd floor. Need a daylight basement--Walk out preferred, but could settle on walk up with ouside stairwell if everything else is ok. Definitely sold on recreational amenities in the community though.

We are relocating to Delaware with the Brac. We live in Jersey now, but my husband will be working in Aberdeen Md. We just signed a contract in a neighborhood called Belden in Newark. It is Appoquimik School District. I have a 9 year old, so schools were my #1 priority. The houses are very reasonably priced.

As far as the taxes going up, Delaware pays so much less than any of the states around that if they doubled they would still be at least half of the taxes any where else. Good Luck

Yes I agree with you. Middletown has beautiful schools for the children. Smyrna is also a nice place. Compare to what we are paying for taxes here in NY, Middletown is a bargain. Everything is convenient to get to, which can be important to some people. I don't understand all the negativity regarding this area.
