Hello,

I have recently purchased the following toothpaste:

Pronamel Daily Anti-Cavity Toothpaste, Fresh Wave Flavour, 110mL

I cover the top of my brush with the toothpaste and while brushing, I try not to swallow the toothpaste and spit out the toothpaste as much as i can and then I rinse a few times(4-5 times).

Should I worry about poisoning ? I spit the toothpaste out but there can always be residues...should I worry about these residues ?? Will they cause poisoning ?

I also get a salty taste after brushing using this toothpaste while I am rinsing. Is this normal too ?

And sometime get itchy/irritated palate, should I be worried ?

Many Thanks

No you don't need to worry about poisoning and rinsing 4-5 times is probably excessive. Once should do it. Twice if you're OC.

Sodium lauryl sulfate is a common ingredient in toothpastes, and it can be an irritant. I won't use toothpaste that has it because it irritates my tongue.

Agree rinsing that much is obsessive/excessive lol

I'm thinking poisoning from what? It's toothpaste.

Sounds like the toothpaste didn't agree with him so he can either try again or stop using it.

I guess it bothered the OP enough to join, I guess we'll see if it bothers him enough to come back, probably a one time log in lol

Spit, don't rinse with water or mouthwash after brushing, not rinsing keeps fluoride on your teeth and lessens tooth sensitivity when using Pronamel toothpastes.

Your mouth might be irritated from the sodium laurel sulfate in the anti-cavity one, some versions of Pronamel don't have SLS, like Pronamel Gentle White or Pronamel Daily Protection, the two I use. Additionally, your mouth could be irritated by the Fresh Wave flavoring ingredient or if you use mouthwash with irritating ingredients.

As others have suggested, you may be sensitive to some ingredient in that particular toothpaste. It happens. An itchy palate is a common histamine reaction. This does not mean you are running the risk of being poisoned when using it correctly. If you don't use it correctly (ie. eating tubes of the stuff day in day out), well the manufacturer can't be held responsible for that idiocy, can they? Even so, given that idiots and liability do exist, it would make poor business sense to sell products so poisonous they kill off customers. IMHO you are getting obsessive about rinsing. There are lots of choices in toothpaste. By process of elimination, find a different product you'll worry less about.

Right, it's a listed ingredient, but they also say that product doesn't contain SLS/sulfates...
Am I missing something?

The other irritant could be titanium dioxide.
Exposure can irritate the eyes, nose and throat. since it has been shown to cause lung cancer in animals - a carcinogen. Such substances may also have the potential for causing reproductive damage in humans.

I didn't see the ingredients at the Amazon link or any mention of it being sulfate free, but another site showed titanium dioxide and no s.l. sulfate
