Ok...no one likes to admit it but we all have it. It's just a part of life. Stinky Breath! Morning Breath! I've never met anyone who can go 3 hours without eating and still have nice breath. I brush good (yes I brush my tongue), I floss, I rinse.....what else can I do??? Does anyone have any tips on fighting this nasty halitosis???

I found that if I drink ice water (which I should drink lots of water a day anyways) it helps. I guess it continuously flushes my mouth?

You'll think it's crazy...yes you will...don't say I didn't warn you! Don't let me say; "I told you so!".....but.... there is a way to cut bad breath.

Use Ivory bar soap to brush your teeth before you go to bed. Yep, exactly what I said. Ivory bar soap. It will taste funny and you'll wrinkle your nose at first in disgust because you're programmed think that you only get soap in your mouth if you say dirty words as a young child and mom washes your mouth out with soap...
But...it works. Not only does it thoroughly clean your teeth and tongue, but you'll wake up WITHOUT morning breath (because morning breath is mostly the glycerin film from toothpaste).
You'll also have the cleanest mouth you can imagine and it helps kill all the nasty germs in your mouth, including gingivitus. Your gums will be tight and bright pink in weeks if you brush with soap.
Trust me..I've been only brushing with white bar soap now for two years. It cured my dental gum disease and I don't wake up with nasty mouth.

Go to the Dentist. Often enough stinky breath has to do with cavities also.

MoMark, whered you get that tip? I mean did you just one day say hey I'm going to brush my teeth with soap or maybe you got your mouth washed out so many times from your mom you just learned to enjoy the taste!
How much soap do you put on your brush? I mean do you just lightly coat it or get a thick layer?
I'm not sure I'm brave enough to try that...I have a pretty strong gag reflex.

I started due to receding gums and inflamed gums. I was desperate and nothing the dentist gave me worked. I found out that toothpaste with Fluoride makes things worse.
So I read up on white bar soap and thought...what the hell and gave it a shot.
Even my dentist (I had a lot of work done two years ago) noticed the improvement.
The side effect was that my mouth stayed clean and I woke up with no filmy morning breath.
Try it. You won't gag as much as you think you will. My parents now use soap as do some coworkers I knew. Just brush a wet toothbrush against the bar until you get a film of soap and get brushing! Get your tongue too.

When you say you got a lot of work done-did you get the (don't know what it is called technically) procedure where they do quadrants at a time, seperate the gum from the teeth and clean it out? Thinking this is why my dentist wants to send me to a specialist. I believe that gum disease can give you bad breath, and I thought there was no cure for it-am I misinformed? No cure for gum disease I mean, not bad breath!

I underwent all quadrants at the same time, had the full scraping, the works. I can handle pain if I know I'm going through it all in one setting and won't have to face it again. I am not the kind of person who says...no no! Only do one-fourth of the work so I can recover inbetween! Knowing I'd have to go back three more times would drive me crazy. Plus, I used sleep dentistry
Read up on toothpaste and glycerin and fluoride and particularly what fluoride does to your gums. It destroys them over time and allows gum disease inroads.
Soap kills the germs, keeps the teeth clean, no filmy residue, and you get healthy again.

All reasons for bad breath are not in the mouth. There can be other health problems that may cause halitosis, like digestive tract problems (chronic constipation is one) and sinus drainage. Bad breath can also be an indicator of other diseases, like diabetes. Google it you'll find lots of stuff about bad breath that we don't routinely talk about!

Also, try rinsing your mouth with a 50/50 mix of hydrogen peroxide and water. Promise, it won't kill you -- even my dentist had me do that when I was having some work done. Also, warm salt water is a really good healing rinse & gargle, especially if you have any sores in your mouth.
