It doesn't look like OP is coming back to respond but I'll say that just because some people consider an hour long commute acceptable doesn't mean that she has to. Personally, I wouldn't, I would be beyond miserable to spend 10 hours in a car (round trip) and that's not even taking weather issues or out of the ordinary traffic into consideration.

Normally, I'd agree as I seriously hate commuting. That being said, there really isn't a good way to go about this. There's significant transaction costs involved in moving (with either both of the moving or one renting an apartment) and the cost-benefit ratio just isn't there for a year and a half.

I'd go with what the other poster said about finding an air BnB for a few times a week, if needed.

I would do a couple nights in the air bnb, and study, or just relax after all that driving. Some days she may feel like doing the commute. Just being flexible and paying attention to how you feel each week would make it easy-peasy.

I agree. If OP were to move her stuff into storage the rental cost would be at least $200+ per month plus cost of packing and moving everything. Cleaning and totally emptying her house in order to have renters would be additional costs. Then there is the challenge of having strangers renting your house, either you rent it out yourself or you pay a property management company. When it's time to move back there are costs associated with cleaning it up and repairing or even replacing floors, carpeting, etc. Then you have to pay to transport all your stuff back into your house. You also have the hassle of changing your address on everything like utilities, bank and credit cards. Add to this all the costs associated with renting an apartment (first and last month's rent, deposits, utilities hookup) and commuting for 18 months seems a much wiser choice financially.

Catch the Light Rail, maybe the G Line once it's complete.

Thanks for the input everyone! For some reason I wasn't getting notifications on responses! Really appreciate your time and suggestions! It looks like we may sell now and move to the area. But we shall see!
