I have a current 8th grader and trying to do some research on cherry creek high schools to see if we should attend our home high (Eaglecrest) or consider a few others close by us (Grandview or Cherokee Trails).

I would like to know any/all feedback. Good or bad. I am hearing CT has issues with lots of drug use. Not sure how true that is and I imagine most HS would probably have to deal with that at some point but a few parents made it sound like it was worse than the norm.

I am also interested in hearing about the curriculum, if your student liked the school and did well there, had any issues with bullying, if AP classes were offered, if the school IB recognized, and if they concurrent enrollment which allows them to take college classes in HS.

Thanks

*additional info: I live in Tallgrass Neighborhood

I meant to follow up on this post but forgot. All 3 of my kids have attended Cherokee Trail. My oldest graduated 2 years ago, and the other two will graduate over the next 2 years.

My oldest struggled with school, but his sisters are flourishing. Both of my daughters have taken AP and Honors courses, and my oldest girl is currently taking a course at the Cherry Creek Innovation Campus.

The two older kids have both taken concurrent enrollment classes as well. There are subtle differences between AP and CE so be aware of them when you're trying to choose which advanced classes to take.

Neither of my girls were interested in the IB curriculum, and, quite honestly, I don't blame them. It's a LOT of work.

As far as drugs go, you will find them at any public high school. The podunk high school I went to on the Western Slope had issues with pot, coke, and acid while I was a student there 30 years ago.

As a someone who knows teachers working at each of those schools I would be happy to send my daughter to any one of them.

Unless there is a specific magnet program your child is interested in I think it's best to just send your kid to the neighborhood school or alternatively to the one where their friends are going.
