Unless your house is facing north and/or is perpetually in the shade, your snow will melt in a matter of days.

Denver's winters are bipolar.
This sums it up well. You can get almost anything in winter.

Don't expect 4 seasons, spring and fall are over in a few weeks (not months).

Im from Pittsburgh originally....Denver winters are a lot different than PA or Michigan.

1. You dont have the gray from November through April. There is a lot of sunshine.
2. Winter weather can last from Sept-May. In between those winter days you can have nice weather days. It can also be windy as F. And forget about those fall days in Michigan. You get a handful of nice days in the fall and then its either hot or cold mostly.
3. There isnt much fall color unless you trip it to the mtns.
4. It's been sub zero on AFC championship day and 60's on superbowl sunday.

Generally most of what has already been said is true. But I chuckled when I saw this thread because I have had snow on the ground for the past month in parts of my yard that do not get much sun, which is very unusual — but we’ve had quite a bit of snow (on and off) over the past month compared to what I consider to be normal. Usually, like everyone says, the snow melts within a few days.

It’s still nothing like winter in New England.

Yes, most of the time snow is not a big issue. Residential streets generally do not get plowed at all. Rush hours are slower, depending on the timing of accumulation. But then there's the occasional 12"-24" snowfall. We experienced two of these when we lived in the Denver area, and were unable to leave our house by car for a couple of days during each of these events.

Side note - It's been below freezing for over 60 hours now (not all that common), and the power grid hasn't failed. ERCOT would have instituted rolling blackouts by now. It's nice having a power grid that's properly regulated and run by competent individuals instead of greedy laissez-faire morons.

It's almost like quality services such as utilities and education and infrastructure cost money to build and maintain. But what about my personal 40 foot yacht budget, or my trip to the outer rim of the atmosphere?

Another side note - we've even set some records - from the National Weather Service, (talking about Tuesday-Wednesday this week)
Quote:
Yesterday, the max temp in Denver was 8 degrees which set a new record low max for the day. The previous record was 13 degrees back in 1913.

The low this morning was -7 degrees which set a new record low for the day. The previous record was -4 degrees way back in 1899.
We're also way above average for snow amounts in January-February this year.

So it looks like the start of this year might be a good example to answer OP's question of how bad the winter in Denver could be when it's setting records.
