When your governor announces the new area code in Denver will be 983.....and everybody immediately asks, "Why didn't we get 420?"

That area code is already used in AZ.

As if you even know/remember someone’s phone number.

The best days in CO. were back in the '70's when we only had 303.

I'm 51. And I do. And I work in the telecom industry as well (which is why I have one.)

I joked to someone before that if I was arrested and allowed 1 phone call, I'd be SOOL!

2 area code fun facts:

1) 321 in Brevard County Florida was picked because it's home to NASA. 321-count-down

2) 786 in Miami, FL spells S-U-N if you look at a phone dialer

Here's another fun fact: The lower numbered area codes (eg., 212 for NYC, 213 for LA, 312 for Chicago, etc.) were assigned to large cities because it took less time to dial them on a rotary phone.

So here's a question for you no landline folks (I have a google voice number for my landline, so there are no monthly charges):
Do you carry your phone around the house with you everywhere you go? If not, you're likely to not hear/miss calls. So how does that work? (P.S., yes, over 60).

Vision, I'm in Kentucky and just saw this thread and read your post. If you think area codes are a thing of the past, you should come to the Bluegrass state. Even for local calls, in town, we have to use the area code.

You do have to know it at least once: To put it into your cell phone.
