No, that’s not an old movie you keep meaning to watch. Who would want to?

On the map, Des Moines, Iowa, is a middling metro area in the middle of a
vast inland ocean of corn. Corn as far as the car can drive.

But in the city’s East Village, life is strangely uncornlike. A walkable
warren, quirky and fun, snuggles below Iowa’s monumental, gold-domed
Capitol.

A white-tablecloth sushi restaurant sits next to a sports bar and deli, which
sits next to a plumbing store, a selection of basic white toilets in the window.
On the next block, folks live in apartments above Zombie Burger and Drink Lab,
quick access to an array of spiked milkshakes.

And here, eight blocks west: Another village of eateries, bars and condos is
steps away from a stately Beaux Arts courthouse with a classic clock tower.

A nice article indeed with a pleasant gallery of pix included.
The movie night pic on the river bank struck a chord with me. You have an advantage there in Des Moines in that when they hold a free movie night in the center of Atlanta, the event is likely to draw 10-20 people=crowd size overkill & control issues.

A very nice read. The article serves sort of like a mini-guide for what to see, do and where to eat while visiting DM. I'm looking forward to my visit to DM this year. I want to check out the restaurant scene there for a possible investment.

-Cheers!
