If you go to a specific area, many of us probably have first-hand experience with it and can advise you further.

Mackinac Island is amazing! but far. Going up north is great family time and an a great way to see other parts of Michigan. If you're looking for something to do a little closer by and want to see some nicer areas outside of Detroit, you can check out the Shopping in Birmingham, or even go house looking in Bloomfield Hills, there are some amazing properties there. Also, there is a park on Cass lake that is a fun time for the day with picnic tables and a beach, but it gets pretty busy on the weekends. Henry Form Museum is a fun time as well. I'm trying to think of things I did as a kid, I'll let you know of anything else if I think of it

I went camping up in Badaxe once, which wasn't too far and was on one of the great lakes which was nice.

Trust me, they don't want to go there!!!!...I love Detroit and hate the people that bash it; however there are some areas that families should avoid.

The majority of people frequenting chandler water park are not going to display the type of language and behavior you want your children to be around.
