i am on daily Victoza (1.2 mg injections) and 850 mg of metformin 3x per day. my a1c is 6.4 as of late May

my waking sugars before the victoza and increased metformin changes were like 155 or 150. now they have been about 116-120. today they were 108 upon waking and 101 3 hours after breakfast and a metformin. is 108 a good reading for waking up or should it be lower?

can you still develop neuropathy with an a1c under 7? a nurse practitioner at my job says you're safe from that under 7.

will victoza and metformin suppress your appetite even more as the months roll on? ive been on victoza since late Feb and there are times when i don't feel hungry at all, compared to when i first started. does Victoza start to kick in stronger around 4 or 5 months or so?

can be taken anytime, in my case i take it before dinner because that is when i am hungriest and most vulnerable to too much snacking(and i don't mean junk food i mean yogurt, cheese, leftovers from dinner)

Taking Victoza before dinner is good; it helps keep morning fasting numbers low. If you have to eat a snack at night, try a little cheese.

Victoza and metformin don't work the same for everyone with appetite suppression. Some people lose a little weight and there are others that don't lose anything at all.

The average glucose for an A1C of 7 is 155.
The average glucose for an A1C of 6.5 is 140.

Try to get your A1C below 6.0.

I did the Victosa (Full dose,1.8) for 6 months and it did nothing for me, i didnt lose any weight and it had no effect on my Blood sugar readings. At close to $100 per pen (using 1 pen per week) i thought this drug was a total waste of the insurance companies money and potentially a total ripoff,

i find it has lowered my a1c in conjunction with the metformin. as the months go on i find myself less and less hungry which is a good thing. it doesn't make me feel ill and i am satisfied with my readings. i feel my doc made a good choice

Sorry to hear that. You're the first person I've heard that the pen did nothing for their glucose reading. Have you tried Byetta? Maybe that would work for you.

This is a long shot, but is it possible you used contaminated pens? Did the pharmacy keep them improperly?

I'll run the idea of Byetta by my endocrinologist on my next visit.
Contaminated pens? i guess anything is possible considering many of our drugs are now being made in China but its hard to believe 6 months worth of product was contaminated and no one knew, you now got me thinking maybe all my drugs are compromised.certainly would explain why no matter how much drugs i use it never has an impact on my blood sugar readings for example since the beginning of this year i've tripled my doses of insulin,my diet remains the same as does my blood sugar level...
