One of my colleague's patients called and was worried about the risk of continuing the drug. The fact that she weighs 270# with a thoracic aneurysm didn't concern her as much as taking the Avandia, which she has been taking for years....
My husband was diagnosed with type II diabetes just this year. When his doc put him on Avandia I was not a happy camper. I had read up on the side effects and also saw there were many lawsuits out due to the damages to lungs and hearts it caused. I was also warned by a friend who used to take it.
Well lo and behold, my husband ended up in the hospital not once but twice due to reactions to the Avandia. He broke out in hives and had problems breathing! I was so glad when the doc reluctantly took him off the stuff! He didn't even have to replace it with something else. He'd already had him on Glipizide and that continues to be enough to control his blood sugar levels.
I am very concerned not just about this medication but all the others as well. There must be more natural ways to deal with health issues that will not bring other side effects to our health.
