We lost 4 pounds in a span of 5.5 months. The doctor said it is to be considered concerning unless we were trying to lose that weight. Your experiences?

None of us can say, beyond what your own doctor told you. Are you underweight already? Are you undergoing a stressful time? Are you eating a restrictive diet or overexercising for no reason?

We've been in the 140 to 150 range for decades. The doctor put weight loss on a referral but didn't note that the last appointment was back in mid August. Weight at the time was 144. This week 140. That's the 5.5 months. Diet lacks some protein like red meat, eggs, peanut butter. On exercise we are probably getting less than we should vs. too much.

Thanks.

During one 6-month period when I was in my early 30's, I lost around 20 pounds without doing anything intentional to lose it. My appetite was the same as always, as was my activity level. The doctor said I was still at a healthy weight, not at risk of being underweight, but that if I lost another 5 pounds to check back with him and he'd do some tests. Other than the weight loss, there was nothing unusual about my health, I felt well enough, not "sick" at least. I didn't like being only 123 pounds. I've always preferred being a little on the heavy side of healthy, it suits me better.

I plateaued at that 20-pound loss, and gained it all back in the next two years.

It remains a mystery as to why I lost it in the first place.

How tall are you? Are the rest of your health numbers good?

I wouldn't choose to cut protein out of my diet, but that's me.

And I wouldn't be concerned about 4 pounds, my weight varies 4-5 pounds all the time.

I didn't drink beer for 4 months once, but ate and exercised the same, and I lost about 20 lbs. There are so many variables, including how hydrated you stay.
