Hyundai and Kia vehicles don't qualify for the new made-in-America federal tax credits, but, they're plugging that gap with discounts of their own. It is definitely a hard fought competition for market share out there in EV land!

And the related: "Hyundai Motor[/hotlink] Co. will give as much as $7,500 in cash bonuses for electric-vehicle buyers in the US, seeking to keep its cars competitive with automakers qualifying for tax credits under President Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act.

The discounts apply to the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6 and Kona Electric, and the month-long incentive will last through Jan. 31, according to the Korean automaker’s website. "

That's what competition does, drive the prices down. Teslas are now a bargain and so are these Hyundai's. I saw my neighbor driving that Ioniq 6 yesterday and I see dozens of Model Y's daily.

Yes, Tesla is still far out in front in sales, but I am continually impressed with how ambitious and how nimble Hyundai/Kia has been in their EV initiatives, and other than Volkswagen, they are doing the best among traditional carmakers.

My son has the Genesis GV60 and it's impressive. I worked in Seoul for the other most famous Korean company and they have a different mindset than American companies, they're not so much focused on quarterly profits as they are being super competitive in product technology and sales. I'm pretty sure Hyundai/Kia will be a major player for years to come.

Still too expensive for me. After the tax credit I'm getting my new Bolt EUV for $22k.

Sure, the faster charging would be nice, but I have an ICE vehicle I can use for longer trips if needed.
