It was a recall for the battery defect that could catch fire when fully charged. 2017-2019 got new batteries no questions asked. 2020-2022 got a software update that was very sensitive, and if it detected any kind of fault then the car got a new battery. The new batteries do not have the issue.

It was mostly likely a GM buy back and that's why the mileage is so low.

It was not a buy back. (I checked Carfax) But it was a car that had a battery issue that got replaced. Those of of us who went thru the battle know there were many stages to it.

Park it outside, don't park close to other cars, don't charge above 80% don't charge below 20%, get a software update that limits you to 80% for 6,200 miles, get a warning about the batteries, oops the software was too sensitive, do another update.

I suspect the owner was someone who was very worried about the battery issue so hardly drove it till things were resolved, and then just when he thought it had been resolved, he gets hit with REAL battery issue and replacement, and he just said screw it I want out.

Traded it in at a Chevy dealer and washed his hands of the whole affair. They replace the battery on 12 Feb, I buy it 23 Feb.

The rating is EPA rating and assumes 3.8 miles/kWh. Which is about right in colder weather. But most people with Bolts are getting 4+ miles/kWh, even on the highway. I mean, I get 4.2-4.5 on road trips up to eastern CT and back without issue. That's 300 actual miles of range and not at around town speeds. Around town it's more like 4.6-5.2 miles/kWh.

If I was driving around town, this is the efficiency I see (and most people):

I thought EV got better mileage than that. I wouldn't buy a bolt with only a 200 mile range. I certainly wouldn't buy 3 of the same model that had such low range.

I drove 100 miles yesterday using just 21 kwh.

It's a 65 kwh battery, so do the math.

You might only see a 200 mile range in the dead of winter with the heater running. MOST of the year it's considerably higher than that.

There are 2 videos referenced above. They show range to be 231 miles at 70 MPH in normal temps.

This video that came up in the feed while I was watching the above, the guy sees about 50% range loss in Bolt EUV in -14F to -8F weather, with winter tires, driving mostly 70mph and the cabin about 70F. He notes the tires will hurt range, but of course, in a cold weather location, in winter, you're going to be using winter tires, so that's why he has them on his car - lives in NH.

They might be cheap to buy but they are also costly to own with depreciation.
