BYD has brought out an EV starting at $9,700. The Seagull EV Honor Edition (Dolphin Mini outside China), is a relatively small and simple vehicle. But it is supposed to be legit, and that it can be offered at such a price and reportedly at a profit, is astounding.

Terry Woychowski, a former GM executive who evaluated the new car for automotive consulting company Caresoft, observed that “What they did do is done very well".

Traditional automakers should be very, very, very afraid.

I'll bet it will never be allowed in the US because of safety regulations

CEO of BYD Americas, Stella Li, mentions on the TV recently that BYD has no intention to enter the US market.

Yet on another foreign news outlet, I read that about 6000 high-end U8 or U9 were sold to wealthy Americans at an inflated price range of USD150k - 350k. Don't know who to believe!

So why do you claim that it's unsafe? BYD's vehicles to date have done extremely well in rigorous EU government safety testing.

So maybe this latest one is going to be an exception, but that's what it would be.
