Closed captioning in Amazon Prime Video?? (1996, tv show, movies, blu-ray)

Does anyone know how to turn on closed captioning in Amazon Prime Video? According to the online help Amazon offers, you are supposed to do a search, then limit the search to films offering cc. However, we find no way of limiting the search. When we select the search button, we just get a lot of movies to scroll through, but no way to limit the search — in any way, not just for cc.
A friend of mine said I should just press the star button on the remote, but our remote has no such button. All the buttons are labeled and none say “cc,”

There is a setting at the top of the screen on my iPad app.

Most Blu-ray players, Smart TVs, and Set-top boxes
To enable or disable subtitles or alternate audio on most Blu-ray players, Smart TVs, and set-top boxes:
Launch the Netflix app.
Select a TV show or movie.
Select Audio & Subtitles from the options panel.
Select your preferred audio or subtitle options.
Press Back to return to the options panel.
Select Play.
On newer Blu-ray players, Smart TVs and set-top boxes, audio and subtitle options can be accessed while a TV show or movie is playing:
Launch the Netflix app.
Select a TV show or movie.
While your TV show or movie is playing, press the Up arrow.
Select the Dialog icon .
NOTE: If the Dialog icon does not appear, press the Down arrow while your TV show or movie is playing to open the audio and subtitle menu.
Select your preferred audio or subtitle options.
NOTE: If you're unable to complete the steps above, your device does not support this feature. If you’ve completed the steps above but subtitles did not turn on or off, please visit Subtitles won't turn on or Subtitles won't turn off.

It may be different on your device, but when watching something on Amazon Prime on my smart TV, I press the down button. This brings up the overlay that allows me to pause, rewind, fforward ... and over to the right is a small "cc". I press the right arrow a few times to select the "cc", and that's where the options are. You can change the language and the font size.

We access Amazon Prime via Roku, so enabling closed captioning or subtitles may be different, but:
The only way I've been able to get CC or subtitles enabled is when you select a movie or tv show and you see various selections at the top of the display over the "Box" that has the show or movie picture inside.
Such as:
Seasons Episodes Cast Subtitles
I use the Roku remote to navigate up and across to highlight and select Subtitles.
Same for movies - above the "Box" showing a picture of the movie there are options to select - if the movie has CC or subtitles it will be listed. So highlight it and select it.
I know of no way to enable/disable CC or subtitles on the fly while watching a movie or tv show on Amazon Prime with my Roku. It has to be done outside of the show as I've described above.
After whatever you want to watch on Prime comes on your screen, press the screen of your tablet and in the upper right hand corner a "cc" icon will appear if the movie or whatever offers it. Press that icon. It works because I accidentally did it. Good luck.
I also have a problem with captions. I hate how some films have closed captions which one can't remove or hide.
Prime Video:
1. At program page, Up Arrow to the menu, Right Arrow to Subtitles, then click OK to turn subtitles on or off, OR
2. While playing video, click * to toggle closed captions on or off, OR
Alternatively, at the Roku home page: Settings > Captions > Captions mode > Off | On always | On replay.
