When I lived in fargo years ago my impression was that this is a skeeevy place, but I have heard they have been doing all sorts of work to downtown fargo lately - I am wondering if The Gardner Building is a decent/funky/safe place to rent an apartment these days? I'm moving back to fargo and would love to live in or close to downtown. This pictures look nice enough, but they can be deceiving!

I don't know anything about the building itself, having never been inside it, but I think the area is fine. Directly across the street (in the old Cinema Grill location), is a new building nearly complete (the Cityscapes building) that has apartments for college students and street level retail. See here for photo.

It does look nice. The apartments, though, are being managed by NDSU and are just for students. NDSU is opening a couple new buildings downtown, so there is demand for student housing there.

Thats what I hear I just called a place across the street from said building. He had a lot of good things to say about the new downtown (I haven't been there in 9 years so...)

the gardner is the maroon building on the right side of the picture, not the focal point of that that picture. it's not trashy, but you can find better at more convenient locations with better parking accomodations

Not a lot of independent reviews online that I could find. I only found two and one was no go with the other being go!

SO, anyone like to comment that has lived in The Gardner building? I am looking at trying to get a place there from out of state as I love the location, price and they take cats.

I would recommend avoiding the Gardner. The building is very old, which is kind of cool as long as you don't live there. With age comes maintenance issues and unpleasant odor, and the Gardner has plenty of both. Also, the office staff does not seem very helpful in my experience.

Can anyone give me an update on the Gardner who has lived there in the last year or to? Is it worth going to check it out? The price is great for a college student. Any other apartments anyone can recommend that falls at a lower price point, but is still a good place to live? I'm liking the $360-$450 price. Graduate student from out of town needs help some help.
