Processed hair, unnatural hair colors, make-up, colored contacts and weaves....make women look old(er).

This applies to both black and white women.

I makes them look older than they are.

What do you think?

I think you are far to concerned with things that don't concern you...

I think for some it does, but not for all.

I don't know about old but it does make it hard to take them seriously.

Wait - are you actually saying that if a woman dyes her hair, straightens or curls it, highlights it, or wears makeup you find it hard to take her seriously?

Well, maybe because her look is "fake"..........IDK. Maybe the OP will explain?

The wild Manic Panic hair colors are fun to see on teens' hair. In my opinion, after a certain age, maybe 25 or so, choosing hair colors not found in nature strike me as a desperate plea for attention by an unattractive or older woman.

What bothers me the most is young women who would otherwise be quite attractive who have colored and bleached their hair so many times, it looks like dead straw. I don't understand this compulsion. I also am not in love with the grown out bleach job, but I see it many times especially with longer hair.

I would not characterize older women who dye their hair, or parts of their hair, odd colors as wanting attention, although perhaps as they grow older they might be feeling that they have become invisible. Many of us do experience this more often, the older we become. It is almost as if we are not seen by others. But as we age, the options to express ourselves through our dress become fewer. So, perhaps the dye jobs or spiky haircuts are ways older women can feel they are expressing how they feel about themselves, even though they can't wear short skirts or revealing tops anymore.

I do think that if you call attention to your hair by dyeing, you should have it cut and keep it trimmed. There is no better way to look older than you feel than by allowing your hair to go too long between haircuts, or to wear it long and untrimmed.

I've just been looking at photos of my 10 years younger self in hair that simply was not cut becomingly. It should have been shorter. I should have maintained it better. So, this isn't just about others. It is also about me. But I would never dye or bleach my hair, because I would worry about maintaining the look. And dyeing older hair invariably makes it look less healthy, therefore, older.
