Hello I'm a 21 year old college student at UALR. I was wanting to get some Arkansans opinions on "The Hill". Im thinking about transferring there from UALR. Does U of A have a good accounting program? I think UALR's is good too, but I think big firms recruit from u of a. I'm african-american and I already know the hill is majority white, but that's ok. Are the numbers of AA going up though? Any knowlege will help. Thanks.

If your main concern is the quality of the school, then it would be a good move.

UA is actively striving to increase the minority population. The accounting program is very very good. The strides that business college has made in the past 10 years is staggering but not surprising given the amount of money that's been pumped into it. The accounting program is not the centerpiece of the business college but I'm sure the visibility of the other programs will help it as well. I would highly recommend making the move up there.

Yes the quality of the school is of the utmost importance. Before demographics or anything else comes into play the quality is most important. I'm one of those people who gets along with everybody. I dont give anybody a reason to dislike me. It just that I was hesistant to consider fayetteville. Everybody wants their ethnicity/race to be represented to some extent though. The state of Arkansas is about 17% AA, but there are only a handful of blacks at The Hill. I still would consider Arkansas the best university for anybody to attend.

How hard is it to get into Arkanas? I have about 24 credit hours.

If you have a decent GPA you should be fine. Are you an Arkansas resident? Though i know their standards have raised, it has been known as a pretty easy university to get into compared to others in other parts of the country.

Since UALR and U of A are part of the same university system, the hurdles should be minimal. UALR is a good school in its own right. I'd be surprised if there were many hours that wouldn't transfer, especially the basics.

Hello I'm an AA who graduated from "the Hill" in 2000 and currently enrolled at UALR working on my masters degree so I think I can give you some perspective on life on the hill. I got my undergrad in CISQ from the Walton college of business and it is a renowned business school that is on the rise so the accounting program should also be very good (I hated my accounting courses on the hill!) When I was a student there, the big companies recruiting from there was Texas Instruments, Exxon, Disney World offered interships, Tyson, JB Hunt, Acxiom, Alltel and Wal-Mart of course. I remember Arthur Andersen use to recruit accountants from here before the major scandal.

As far as AA, there is a neighborhood near the Yvonne Richardson center in Fayetteville and the St. James Baptist church is very infulential in recruiting AA's to come to their church. When I was a student there, the AA's on campus for the most part stuck together because they came from all over the country. We were almost like extended family, but there are enough AA's on campus where you won't know every one of them. Keep in mind, the U of A is the largest campus in the state. It was cool, but don't forget that there are many other people from many other cultures going to school up there and it was a wonderful experience for me making new friends from all different cultures. UALR's a good school as well with major companies recruiting from the COB so in my opinion you can't lose with either one, but I enjoyed Fayetteville because there is actually campus unlike UALR, which is primarily a commuter school.

Hope this helps! Good luck with your decision!
