Planning to move hopefully near Harrison next Nov.Plan on another road trip down that way come spring.Wanting to be within 25 miles of Harrison.Jasper and Ponca catch my interest.Semi-retired contractor and taxidermist so hoping to do some light handyman work or open a small scale taxidermy shop doing just deerheads. Was a licensed taxidermist in Pa. For 20 years.Plan on maybe building my last small house or buy one that is structurally sound but might need a little TLC.Any tips or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

I live near Jasper. As for the things I'd share about living here about it really depends on what you're used to. My tips here are mostly for living in Newton co. which includes Jasper and Ponca. I can tell you Harrison is our nearest "town" with stores like Walmart, Home Depot, etc. Beyond that, we usually go to Branson for clothes/shoes. The area has lots of hunting and I think being a taxidermist could really work out well for you to make some extra income.

Living here is really wonderful if you're okay with being further out, you enjoy the outdoors (hunting, kayaking/canoeing, hiking) and you appreciate nature. You have to be a good planner and keep stocked on things so you don't find yourself having to drive to town too much. It's a beautiful area with lots of outdoor things to enjoy. I find most have trouble if they are used to a social scene or being surrounded by others all the time. If you are okay with lots of quiet and solitude and don't mind the drive to get where you want, you'll love it as much as we do.

Mongo,

You have picked a really good place to start your search. The only thing I would suggest you may want to post this on the AR board as well. Harrison is not always or not my everyone really considered NWA so you may not get as many responses as you would like.

Thanks for the tips.I live in Oregon now and work for the forest service from May to Nov. And live 60 miles from the nearest town so yep living out s right up my alley.Love Oregon but housing costs here are CRAZY!I.m semi-retired and work 6 months and off 6 months so moving to where land and housing is affordable and away from the mass of people brings the Jadsper-Ponca area to mind. Thanks again

Don't worry about the spelling, hubby says he needs smaller fingers all the time. My excuse is honest: I am a lousy speller.
