Posting on this older thread to find out more about ice storms/road conditions in nwa. Having drove through an ice storm near Lebanon, MO and seeing roads there totally untreated and knowing it's not that much further north, curious about the number and duration of ice storms that leave perhaps smaller roads impassable during winter in nwa. How do the counties of and around nwa handle icy conditions in most cases? Are only the major roads treated? Do counties take responsibility for local traffic roads in neighborhoods? Does it vary year to year or is it a consistent organized effort? I've seen entire cities come to a grinding halt from lack of treatment on the city level (though this was in Dublin, Ireland not in the US, a city I was told never sees snow so they had no infrastructure in place at the time in 2010 to tackle it though I'm sure that's changing since many a harsh winter has hit the city in recent years) so would like to get an idea of how winter goes in nwa from the perspective of everyday people going about their lives.

they pre-treat with beet juice, but that's usually useless if it rains first. not sure if they use salt and sand or just sand because usually the ice doesn't melt when they put down whatever they use. I don't recall seeing the tell tale salt stains on the road, but then it doesn't usually need much with the weather we normally get.

If you're a car "nut" like I am, I recommend keeping your classics off the road during the winter.
OR
Move to a dry warm climate like I did.
