I am planning to move to the Panhandle in 2007. Looking for local
information covering Compass Lake in the Hills, Alford Fla. Also
anything in Jackson County - Marianna, Fla. I wil be looking for a
job as well. I would like to find something with the county or government
so I can transfer my FRS time. Currently working in the School Board.
Anyone have any ideas? Or know someone who can help? Thanks!

Default Move

You may find some useful in here. I'm retired, so not up on the job market.
Pay rates in this area are relatively low, but so is the cost of living.

Real estate prices are rising, as it is in most areas, and even bare land is going up pretty rapidly. The owner of a parcel across the street from us is asking $6k/acre

I am moving to that area myself soon and like it very much. Taxes are low in Jackson county as well. The CL in the hills area is really strange. It is beautiful but seems to be a failure. Out of the 6000 lots that are available there is less the 600 with people living of them. You can get a beautiful 1 acre plus lot for under $20,000. but I don't think it will be a very good investment. Shopping is kind of far as well. They need Eric Estrada to promote that place or something.

Wow, that will be great, that is anoter nice place where it seems to be hard to get people to move. The lack of shopping is a real problem. Old people can't be driving 15 miles to get a quart of milk. I looked at an area near there called Hige view acres. You get 5 to 10 acre lots with, if you can imigine in Florida, a view. One I looked at had a nice building area with like a 30 degree drop to the lower part of the property. It was really nice and nothing like you are used to seeing in Florida. The price was cheap also. I want to move away from the crowd but I also want to make a little on my investment should I decide to sell. With the new airport going in and wildlife park, and now a little promotion that could be a very good area to consider. Thank you very much for that link.
