I've lived in both Fort Myers and Cape Coral and prefer Fort Myers. Loved the Gateway area but everything in there is in an HOA so you may have a problem with the 3 dogs. For a while I l had to commute to just past RSW for my job from Cape Coral. Although it was only 17 miles it could take me anywhere from 35 minutes to an hour and I live in SE Cape Coral near the midpoint bridge. During "season" it could be a real PITA unless you're used to traffic.

Daniel's Parkway corridor is lovely but again, most are communities with HOA. A realtor can point you in the direction of a home not in an HOA. Some of them are okay with small fees and not too many rules & regulations and others can be very restrictive and charge over $500 a month.

The one thing I hope you are aware of is our long, hot, very humid summers that start in May and go into November many years. Right now at 11 a.m. it is 86 degrees with a 72% humidity for a feels like temperature of 97. You may have your a/c on while having Thanksgiving dinner or putting up the Christmas tree. Some people are fine with it, others not so much.

Good luck with your search and new life!

There are some nice homes on quiet streets in NE Cape Coral......easily in your price range as long as you're not on a canal.
Much less crime in CC and close to shopping, medical etc..I actually appreciate some of the restrictions in CC and all you have to do is cross the line to North Ft Myers to see junk boats, trailers, work trucks, tarpaper sheds and all kind of crap that is not allowed in the Cape.I'm sure you could find a decent 3x2 with 2 car garage and no pool for under 300K with plenty of yard foe your puppies.
