I am considering buying a used boat (cabin cruiser with two inboard motors), but it has been years since I owned a boat, and it had outboards.
Unlike cars, homes, etc. where I have a lot of knowledge and confidence on making a purchase, I am looking for a person or company to do an inspection, to sound the boat and make sure I am not buying a money pit. Naturally since I might not buy it, I do not want to sink too much into an inspection. However if I do purchase it, I'd be willing to pay more and even let them do preventative maintenance thereby being rewarded on that end as well.

So first, since I do not live around there, does anyone know of a person/company that does such inspections?
Any clue as to what I might be expected to pay and what is entails?

Also, if there is any general advice on buying a 39 foot cabin cruiser I'd appreciate it.

What you're looking for is what's called a Marine Surveyor. Many or most banks no longer take their word to lend money anymore because they don't actually deal with buying and selling so what do they know about price? A Marine Surveyor would still be your go-to for looking everything over and making sure you're not buying a lemon.
