You can find it in the Huffington post dated Dec. 19, 2009.. my OP came from the Wisconsin State Journal Dec.18, 2009 Mr.Cool

That's where I was headed after Vero, but my life took an unexpected turn. I even had a job opportunity. Very pretty area. I'm a bit concerned that it's too conservative for me, however, but I guess I don't have to talk about politics in the checkout line. Simpsonville was the area I thought I'd live in when I finally got settled. Well, since this is the FL forum, I'll shut up now.

I don't know if one can go by these studies of happiest places or for that matter any study. If one went by citydata and read both the Florida forums and even the Greenville SC forum, what impression do they get. Usually its going to be a very noticeable difference of opinion of life in the respective areas. I find the FLorida forums as well as even the Greenville forums have alot of people that are unhappy there. In fact the Florida forums are filled with this unhappiness. Obviously the ones that wrote the happiest states ratings didn't read the citydata forums. Of course not every resident is on citydata, so I am sure there are many people that are happy in their state. So who really knows what state is the happiest. Its how one feels in their own place not some study and its ratings.

THANK YOU!!!!! You hit the nail right on the head.... All these "studies" are pretty lame, they don't have any bearing on how I feel. Maybe they do for others, but......

I can be happy here or MA, even SC. It is all in the way an individual feels. NO ONE can tell another person that because they are in "thier" happy place, you will be too. You make it what you make it.

Yep your right, no study can have a bearing on how you feel, or any one individual. BUT as a large study over a long period of time with the results of a huge group of people from all over the United States, the states can be ranked.

That fact that a large group of Floridians are happy with living is Florida, shows that while Florida is not for everybody, the huge majority of survey takers seem to love living there!

Add that to the fact that Port Charotte Fl. was just named the #1 place in America to retire...Too most, not all, The area is looking pretty good (ya, I know, there are no jobs, But where are jobs in a nice warm snowfree state???) Mr.Cool

Apparently MOST people's eyes behold Florida as a HAPPY great place to live, While New York......Well. Mr.Cool

But what do you think happens when everyone from the unhappiest place in the US (NY) moves to FL? Think about it. I hope you find a good spot for your relo but I do not advise heavily populated, transplanted areas if you wanna be around happy and friendly people.

It's what you make of it. right now I am ok in #3. 5 months ago I would have settled for #51 in a minute because of the crappy place I lived/worked. Where I am right now I am ok. I am however looking to move more north because of the heat in SWFL. If I could take Estero and where I work now, and plop it up in North florida or say SC, or heck even MA, I would be in the perfect place, because Estero is as close to perfect in FL I have been.

I am also eyeing #8 right now, Greenville to be exact. looks like my place.
Greenville's awesome Chris! Very nice and friendly place! ...Err.... I mean..... FL is better though.......so you guys keep moving there instead.

I dont see it. FL number 3? Where are all these happy people? Most of the people we know want to move out of FL. To me, that says a lot. Perhaps the people who dont even live here yet were more heavily polled?

Really, you think? That would require common sense & a dash of humility for starters...

How many who've posted on this link as the subject matter experets have actually lived in the state for longer than a snowbird vacation (minus you Chris but you don't count b/c you move every week )

I see you have a little house under your name, that is awesome!!!! Hope you are enjoying & having some luck. I was watching National Openhouse on HGTV (a pretty lame show but ) & your area seems to always be on & can you can some massive bang for your buck there!

That's probably the majority of people YOU know. Unhappy tends to attract unhappy. Not saying anything negative - just that like people tend to associate with one another.
